A groundbreaking operation and first was developed in Eindhoven that successfully improved cluster headaches in a patient. Cluster headaches affect 1 in every 1000 and affect not only the physical side of life but also mentally. Cluster headaches are severe migraines that can stop someone from maintaining a normal day to day life routine. Cluster headaches begin quickly and without warning. The pain is very severe and is often described as a sharp, burning or piercing sensation on one side of the head.
As you can imagine this would affect going to work, sleeping and also the pain would make life so dusruptive and affect a wellbeing for an individual and their families.
Salvia BioElectronics, a Dutch company developed an implant that can be placed under the scalp to help reduce cluster headaches. The company is based in Eindhoven in Holland. Eindhoven is a city in the province of North Brabant in the south Netherlands. Known as a technology and design hub, it’s the birthplace of Philips electronics.
This created medical history as these bioelectronic foils were implanted to treat severe migraine and cluster headaches.

This trial should help to go on and begin a programme to help other patients who have severe headaches. The first implant was given to a lady Silvia in Australia who has suffered from painful migraines since the age of 14. Her two sons were so appreciative that they names their fish, Silvia after the Dutch company.
